“Tarzan” is ready to take the leap
The young and promising Adam Afroune is getting ready to take the next step, on July 28th, where he’ll fight on the eagerly-awaited HEXAGONE MMA 10 card. The bout marks a huge step-change that he approaches without pressure, and with the aim of raising his rating.
Adam Afroune is only 20 years old but he already knows the ins and outs of the MMA world. With his long, wavy hair and nickname – “Tarzan” – the young man is beginning to build himself an identity which he intends to capitalize on.
“I know that everything depends on media coverage, so I’m not going to hesitate to emphasize this ‘jungle’, ‘wild’ side… It may enable me to develop my career even faster.”
An intelligent but not surprising reflection coming from a business school student, who hasn’t neglected his schooling despite very conclusive first results in the cage. Indeed, with two first-round victories on professionally debuting, Adam Afroune has positioned himself as a promising talent on the French mixed martial arts scene. Markedly, he belongs to a new generation of fighters who have been initiated directly into MMA, without going through any ancillary disciplines.
“I practised wrestling, boxing and ground game from the beginning so I don’t really have a specialty. I have a rounded profile, even if I like to think I’m most dangerous with my fists!”
“An opportunity to make my name shine”
Cardio is one of his strengths, with Adam Afroune being a former middle-distance runner:
“Before I started combat sports, I was among the best French runners over the 1000m distance. But even though that has given me a good base, I have had to work to convert that into the cage. Each discipline requires a very different type of effort, and you have to relearn how to develop your endurance.”
In any case, the young man has plenty of room for improvement, and he’ll be working for a long time before he reaches his limits. Signing with HEXAGONE MMA is a first step, which will surely lead to others.
“Fighting in a big organization doesn’t put any pressure on me, I see it as an opportunity to make my name shine. It doesn’t scare me to be put forward. It’s rather what I’m waiting for!”
