After years of work, Romain Debienne feels that “it’s starting to pay off”. Indeed, since 2021, the opportunities follow one another for the young man from Boulogne-sur-Mer, as he wins in the cage.
It must be said that his dynamic is excellent: with six victories in his last seven fights, the 26-year-old boxer is in full confidence, and perfectly apprehends his new welterweight category, after having started in the middleweight. “There, I have all the cards in hand. I’ve been training with Daniel Woirin for less than a year, but we’ve already had two fights together, two belts, and I won both. But this is just the beginning.” The advice of a foot-fist specialist, famous for having coached several international MMA stars (Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida…), fits precisely with the style of the young boxer.
“Until I’m 30, I’ll give everything for MMA
“My main weapon is my front arm. I have a really good strike, and working it with Daniel, there is no better way. In my last fight, I finished my opponent in the first round!” Riding a wave of confidence and success is the goal of Romain Debienne, whose trajectory has not always been so linear. A naval officer at the beginning of his professional life, he chose to cut short his career after a bad experience during the selection course for commandos. “I was 20 years old, I was young, but I was mostly too much of a warrior in my head. After that, I decided to leave the military.” Now, for him, the path is much clearer. “Until I’m 30, I’m going to give everything to MMA. Everything is not perfect yet, but I have opportunities, and I have confidence in myself.”
